Der erste Release Candidate von Scientific Linux 6 steht jetzt zum Download bereit. Bei Scientific Linux 6 handelt es sich um einen freien Clone von Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

We are now in a feature freeze, and are only fixing bugs.

yum-conf-sl6x - added
Installing yum-conf-sl6x will keep your SL6 system at the
latest release. As soon as the next release it out, it will
update to it.

sl-release
Repos were changed to point to 6.0
Mirrorlist was put in the config files, but there currently
aren't any mirrorlist files.

openafs
Updated to fix an update bug.

livecd-tools
liveusb-creator
Updated to link to the latest Live images

OpenAFS
Removed the option of reporting back to RedHat.

redhat-logos
Marked as the release version

yum-conf-autoupdate
Marked as the release version

***KNOWN ISSUES***
If you are on a x86_64 machine, install the adobe repo, and install
flash-plugin and/or AdobeReader_enu, you will get AdobeReader_<random
language> in addition to what you asked for. You will also get many
i686 packages installed for dependancies.

There are not mirrorlists files for the sl repositories

***UPCOMING ROADMAP***
This is the proposed roadmap. These dates can always slip. We will not
release until we are ready.

RC 2 - February 25, 2011
- All bugs of previous week fixed.
- Documentation

RC 2.5 - Sometime in the first week of March, 2011
- This is really the release, down to the documentation.
- If there is no further bugs, RC 2.5 images are declared the official
release images.
- If there is a show stopping bug, we will have a RC 2.75

Release - A day or two after RC 2.5 - Hopefully in the first week of March.

Der zweite Release Candidate ist jetzt verfügbar. Ein weiterer Release Candidate (2.5) und eventuell sogar die Final Version soll schon nächste Woche erscheinen.

32-bit Version
64-Bit Version

Beim Erstellen der 64-Bit Version dürfte ein Fehler aufgetreten sein. Irgendwie fehlen dort die Installations DVDs

Repos were changed to point to 6.0
Mirrorlist was put in the config files, but there currently
aren't any mirrorlist files.

sl-revisor-configs
Kickstarts updated. There is now minimal, small, all-groups,
match-tuv, and everything.
scripts added for customizing product.img and install.img
cleanup of configuration files.

removed java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin
This was removed to prevent confusion since it was removed by TUV
in java-1.6.0-openjdk updates. According to the bugzilla entry
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=653573
they expect it to be in 6 Update 1.

mirrorlists are now available.

Jetzt gibt es auch noch LiveCD/DVDs von Scientific Linux 6.0:

Scientific Linux 6.0 LiveCD/DVDs are officially released. They are available
for 32-bit and 64-bit and come with following window managers

LiveMiniCD icewm
LiveCD gnome, icewm
LiveDVD gnome, kde, icewm

Software was added from rpmforge, epel and elrepo (see EXTRA SOFTWARE)
to include additional filesystem support (ntfs, reiserfs), more secure
network connection (openvpn, vpnc, pptp), and several rescue and
filesystem tools (testdisk, dd_rescue, ddrescue, gparted).

I would like to thank everybody who help to test the LiveCD!

NOTES

For SL6 the way how the LiveCD was built has completely changed. It is
now based on the Fedora LiveCD Tools.
If you install the LiveCD to hard drive, the installation of the live
image is now done by anaconda similar to the normal SL6 installation.
You can also install the LiveCD on an USB stick with persistent changes
using liveusb-creator included in SL6.
To build your own LiveCD use livecd-tools from SL6.

KNOWN ISSUES

* Install to hard drive crashes, if a disk is mounted. Per default no
hard drives are mounted.
* Some features which you might know from SL4/SL5 LiveCD are not included.
* Support for diskless client is very limited. You need twice as much RAM
as the size of the LiveCD.

So, jetzt ist die erste Alpha Version von Scientific Linux 6.1 (basierend auf Redhat Enterprise Linux 6.1) erscheinen:

The first alpha release for Scientific Linux 6.1 has been released.

This release has all the new updated packages from
The Upstream Vendors (TUV) Update 1.

It will install, and it appears to work, but no major testing has been
done.

- Shawn Thompson created a whole new graphical theme for SL 6 called
"Edge Of Space".

* sl-release
- We pulled the fastbugs and testing repo's out of the repository file
that comes with sl-release. They are now in their own rpm called
yum-conf-sl-other.
- This is done to fix the problem of people checking the fastbugs during
the install, fastbugs is then not on by default, and updates break.
* yum-conf-sl-other
This contains the sl-fastbugs, sl-testing, and sl-debuginfo yum
repositories.

Die zweite Alpha ist jetzt fertig:

The second alpha release for Scientific Linux 6.1 has been released.

All of the packages have gone through much more testing. There are
still a couple of packages we are investigating, so we are still in
Alpha stage and not Beta stage.

- The qmf packages were renamed with Update 1. We removed the old
packages, which were qmf, qmf-devel and ruby-qmf
- gfs-pcmk and ldm-pcmk were removed.

* i686 packages in x86_64
- Added several i686 packages that are supposed to be in x86_64,
into the x86_64 release.

* comps.xml
- Updated to reflect changes associated with Update 1.
- Added groups for client-mgmt-tools, identity-server,
high-availability(ha), ha-management, load-balancer,
and resilient-storage.
- Added categories for high-availability, resilient-storage,
and load-balancer.
